5    Annual Community Awards Mixer   Celebrating the best of Homer along with the 45th Anniversary of the Homer News, the 53rd  and the kick-off event for the Homer Winter Carnival

6-8  53rd Annual Homer Winter Carnival   Join us for a weekend of winter fun for the entire family including a Parade on Saturday with CASH prizes for entrants.

6-8  Annual Winter Carnival Girls Hockey Jamboree  Friday through Sunday at the Homer Ice Rink.

6,13, 20, 27  Foreign Film Friday’s 7pm at Kachemak Bay Campus.  Call 235-7743 for film titles.

7    Winter Bird Watching for Families at Seaside Farms 9:30-10:30am  Mossy Kilcher has graciously invited families to view songbirds at her Seaside Farm feeders for an hour on Saturday morning. Her driveway is about a mile past where Kachemak Drive connects with East End Road and about a ¼ mile past Wasabi’s on the south/ocean side of East End Road. Just drive on down to the main house area, where there is lots of space to park. Carmen Field and Mossy Kilcher will meet birders at 9:30 and guide them to the feeders. If you don’t have binoculars, you may borrow kids and adult binoculars for this event (or the weekend) at no cost from the AK Maritime NWR staff at Alaska Islands & Ocean Visitor Center on the Sterling Highway. Just stop by between 12pm and 5pm on Friday, Feb. 6 and ask for binoculars at the information desk in the lobby.

7  Inlet Wind Concert 7pm at Mariner Theatre.  Sponsored by Community schools, 235-6090.

13-16 Great Backyard Bird Count This is an excellent opportunity to partticipate in citizen science and help monitor our bird populations. For more information, go to www.birdsource.org.

26  New Joint Sales Tax Return Forms and Training Session  The Kenai Peninsula Borough will be holding two public training sessions in the Homer Council Chambers, 491 E. Pioneer Ave.  The sessions are from 2-4pm, and again from 7-9pm.  A sign-up sheet will be available and after a brief presentation the Sales Tax and Audit Department will be available to work one on one with individuals.  Please check www.borough.kenai.ak.us/financedept/salestaxinfo  for additional training dates.
