committee!
The Homer Chamber of Commerce is a membership
organization, which relies heavily on volunteers and
committees to implement programs and activities. We
reply on our members and businesses to assist us in
all that we achieve, We would love for that to be
you! Please contact us if you have the time to sit
on one of our committees, you will help make a BIG
difference. We encourage you to get involved and
volunteer!

Events &
Fundraisers
Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival (October -
April)
Coordinate festival: activities, events,
advertising, etc. Facilitate event and volunteers.
Jackpot Halibut Derby (November - August)
Annually evaluates derby's success and make
necessary changes. Plans derby events and contacts
derby sponsors. Meets weekly January-March
Winter King Salmon Tournament (December -
March)
Plan and organize tournament in March each year.
Committee meets January - March, 2-3 times per
month.
4th of July Celebration (May - July)
Coordinate parade: theme, entry forms,
advertisement, & public service announcements, grand
marshals, color guard, volunteers, judges, sound
system, etc.
Winter Carnival (December - January)
Coordinate parade; theme, entry forms,
advertisement and public service announcements,
grand marshals, etc.
ArtRageous (May - August)
Coordinate art programs and activities during
the month of August. Develop and implement
advertisement. Coordinate sponsors and donations.
July 4th Halibut Tournament (January - June)
Plan and organize tournament and sponsors.
Tournament proceeds go to stock the Nick Dudiak
Fishing Hole on the Spit. Committee meets monthly
January - June.
Silver Salmon Tournament (April - July)
Plan and organize annual tournament in August.
Committee meets monthly April - July.
Community
Programs
Beautification Awards Program (August -
September)
Coordinate the annual Beautification Awards
Ceremony, in partnership with the Kachemak Board of
Realtors, to recognize businesses and individuals
committed to beautifying Homer. This includes
selection process, coordinating public service
announcements, entry forms, judging and organizing
the awards ceremony.
Community Awards Program (November - January)
Coordinate the annual Chamber Community Awards
program to recognize outstanding businesses and
individuals for their contributions to the
community. This includes selection process,
coordinating public service announcements, entry
forms, judging and organizing the awards ceremony.
Chamber Scholarships (March - May)
Coordinate scholarship applications and distribute
to local high schools, judge entries, present
awards.
Clean up Day (March - May)
Coordinate event with other agencies in town.
Organize volunteers, activities. Develop
advertisements and public service announcements.
Coordinate sponsors and donations.
Industry/Business
Support
Marine Trades and Services - Kachemak Bay Sea
Festival (year-round)
Coordinate programs and activities for KBSF (Kayak
Fest, Wooden Boat Festival, Sea Fair, Safety Rodeo).
Develop and implement advertisement. Coordinate
sponsors and donations. Advocate for Marine Trades &
Services.
Visitor Guide (March - June)
Coordinate with local provider to develop guide,
layout, etc. Assist with getting information to
members. Monitor success of guide, research and
implement improvements.
Legislative (year round)
Advocate for legislative issues and priorities
relevant to Chamber members and their businesses.
Provide information and keep members current on
Chamber legislative priorities. Hold candidate
forums.
Visitor Industry/Tourism (year round)
Advocate for Visitor Industry/Tourism development
and promotion. Address legislative and other issues
concerning industry, provide information to members.
Retail (year round)
Advocate for Retail Industry development and
promotion. Address relevant issues concerning this
industry, provide information to members.
Availability Service
Coordinate member availability services. Monitor
progress/success of program, research improvements.
Economic Development
Research new economic opportunities for Homer, and
coordinate with the city Economic Development
Commission to support selected projects critical to
our city.
Administration
Board of Directors (year round)
Represents the leadership of the Homer Chamber of
Commerce. The Board is responsible for guiding the
direction of the Chamber's work according to the
Chamber By-Laws, as well as having a vested interest
in the fiduciary management of the Chamber's
financial stability. A complete description of Board
duties is available upon request.
Membership (year round)
Develop and implement services, member benefits,
information, etc. to improve Chamber membership
benefits. Monitor progress of current services,
benefits, and research and implement improvements.
Policy and Procedures (as needed)
Monitor progress of current policies and procedures.
Recommend changes or new policies and procedures as
deemed necessary and appropriate.
Budget/Audit (September - November)
Review and assist in development and monitoring of
Chamber budget. Research improvements.
Ways & Means (year round)
Responsible for monitoring the financial health of
the Chamber, ensuring growth of assets to support
the capital budget and developing new fundraising
opportunities to meet the Chamber's mission for our
city.
Building Projects (year round)
Coordinate building projects: budgets, sit plans,
contractors, monitor progress, etc. Assist with
fundraising and grant writing efforts.
